Course Overview

The Vocational Qualification in Construction Site Management (Construction): Building and Civil Engineering has been designed in partnership with CITB Sector Skills Council to ensure relevance to the sector. It is also jointly awarded with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

This qualification covers areas such as developing and maintaining good working relationships; establishing, implementing and maintaining systems for managing health, safety and welfare; monitoring project activities; organising, controlling and monitoring supplies of materials; and controlling project quantities and costs.

This qualification allows learners to demonstrate competence in job related skills in their particular area of work and expertise. It is available through employers and training providers

Who does this qualification suit?

This VQ is suitable for people who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification.

Entry is at the discretion of the centre.

Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence.

No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although a VQ ln Construction Site Supervision (Construction): Building and Civil Engineering would be advantageous

Progression

The VQ ward could provide progression to:
– degree level study at a higher education institution
– employment in the construction sector, perhaps as building or civil engineering technician and access to CSCS Black card

– Identify, allocate and plan the deployment and use of plant, equipment or machinery
– Organise, control and monitor supplies of materials
– Establish and monitor communication systems and organisational procedures
– Establish dimensional control criteria
– Control project quantities and costs
– Evaluate feedback information and recommend improvements

Additional Extras – Not compulsory
– Plan highways maintenance or repair activities
– Provide customer service in construction
– Plan historical conservation/restoration activities
– Plan demolition activities
– Plan and schedule the maintenance or remedial activities of property, systems or services
– Manage project handover
– Plan tunnelling activities
